University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
He had his post MD foreign training at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and became Board-certified as a specialist in Forensic Medicine in 2002 and joined the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, the University of Ruhuna as a Lecturer in Forensic Medicine. Held the post of Head of the Department from 2004-2010. He was released to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2010 and was appointed as the Chair Professor of Forensic Medicine in 2016. There, he held the post of head of the Department from 2016-2019.
He has been appointed as a visiting lecturer and an Examiner in numerous universities and he has been appointed as the Chief examiner of several postgraduate examinations such as Pg. Diploma in Legal Medicine (DLM) and Doctorate of Medicine (MD) in Forensic Medicine, conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), Colombo.
As a Postgraduate Supervisor and a trainer, he has supervised more than 15 successful postgraduate students in DLM and MD in Forensic Medicine. He has established several Moues between local and international Universities. He was appointed as a Consultant to the UN and conducted a Training of trainers program for Maldivian doctors in 2014 and 2015. He has supervised many local and international research students. He has supervised several elective students of many continents such as Europe, Asia, America, and Australia.
He has published four (05) books and the most recent book is “Identification, Prevention, and Management of Child abuse”. He has more than 200 local and international scientific publications. He has won several awards for research and publications including presidential awards for Research. He is an editor and member of the editorial board in several scientific Journals including the Medico-Legal Journal of Sri Lanka. A member of the organizing committee of several scientific sessions. He has participated, organized, and has been a resource person in many international and local workshops.
He has held multiple positions and became the 11th President of the College of Forensic Pathologists of Sri Lanka (2014) and a Council member of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (2018, 2019 onwards). He developed and conduct a Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (DFMT) -at the Department of Forensic Medicine since 2019. He further, developed a Centre for Advanced Forensic Research (CAFoR) and became the founder Director in 2019. He is in the process of developing a Pg. Diploma in Child protection and rights with the collaboration of NCPA.
Currently, he holds the position of Chair Professor of Forensic Medicine since 2016 and was appointed as the chairman of the National child protection authority by H.E. the President on 1st of January 2020.
